Tips From a Novice to a Novice

I am going to share with you 4 Tips I learned over my course as a Graphic Design Novice.

Here a quick look at the 4 Tips:

  1. Practice! Practice your Skills! Practice the Tools!

  2. Update your Portfolio on a Regular Basis!

  3. Take a Second Look! Have Second Opinion!

  4. Inspiration through References!

Practice! Practice your Skills! Practice the Tools!

You’ll always learn something new when you practice. It may be a new technique, a new problem-solving skill, a more straightforward way to a solution, a more modern approach to a task, or someone else’s viewpoint. The more you practice even the most important things, the more you develop your skill.

Practice also allows to maintain your skills that you already know. By practicing, you are repeating the skills you learn. It helps sharpen your mind on your graphic design knowledge.

Update your Portfolio on a Regular Basis!

Your design portfolio shows the world your work, experience, and skills as a graphic designer. As the world moves further towards a digital workspace, having an online design portfolio can be pivotal in getting your next job.

Take a Second Look! Have Second Opinion!

As a novice, you might spend an hour on the project and think you are done with it. It is important to spend more time looking over the project since there is likely a mistake in the project. You might need to step a way from the project and come back to it to see an improvement or a mistake. Another viewpoint from someone else could work as well. They could see a mistake in the project or bring an idea you might not have thought of.

Inspiration through References!

It is always useful to have reference pictures when you are working on your designs. Reference pictures brings a visual imagery for you while you are working on the design. Like in the previous tip, they could bring an idea you might not have thought of in your design.
